Today is a special day. Not only do Betis play at home for the first time this season, but they play at a brand-spanking, green-and-white gleaming new stadium. It’s been a year in the making after playing the whole of last season without Gol Sur, the south stand, but tonight against Celta Vigo, the doors will be open for the first time and the place will be rocking.

Cleverly, the club have been filming every moment of the revamp and the results are incredible. The official video below shows a time-lapse from start to finish condensed down into two minutes. It’s definitely worth a watch if you want to psyche yourself up before the game tonight. The Benito Villamarin is now the Bonito Villamarin.

It’s always been worth a trip out to Seville to go and watch Betis, but there is even more reason to this year with a spectacular new Villamarin to witness and experience. If you’re thinking about it, read up on how to buy a ticket and catch a game with my guide.

Real Betis vs Celta Vigo

There are lots of new faces that will be gracing the Villamarin for the first time tonight in a very new look Betis side. We’re likely to see Feddal (CB) and Barragan (RB) in defense; Guardado, Javi Garcia and Camarasa forming a three in midfield and Sergio Leon and Cristian Tello forming a three with the indomitable Joaquin in attack. Exciting times ahead I feel. We also have new manager Quique Setien making his home debut.

The game on Friday 25th August kicks off at 9pm UK time (10pm Spanish).

Viva el Betis!
